Lists on Twitter are incredibly important for your success growing and connecting your business with the globe on Twitter.  Below are the different reasons Lists on Twitter are crucial.

1.  First you get to create your own lists and put different followers into different categories to find them quickly and easily.  For instance if you were clothing retailer you may want to put some of your competitiors in a particular list.  Family members could go into another list.  Those you find inspirational into another list etc etc.

2. Then there are lists other people have that you follow.  This is fantastic.  It could be an amazing list that someone puts together that applies to what you do or simply a list you find very interesting.  Twitter allows you to follow other peoples amazing lists!  So cool!

3.  Now under your profile tab there will be a category called Listed.  This referes to how many people have you listed on their lists.  Why is this so important?  Because the more lists your on the more exposure you get.  For instance I am currently on 2971 lists which gets me exposed to hundreds of more thousands of people on Twitter!  How cool is that!

How do you get on other peoples lists?  All you have to do is be interesting.  You should tweet good content.  Take an interest in others and they will take an interest in others.  Provide value to others and you will have others start putting you on their lists!

I often get asked how do I attract those followers who are on Twitter who would be looking for the product or business I offer?  This is certainly a loaded question with many different answers.  Here are some of my tricks and beliefs that I utilize on Twitter  http://twitter.com/peteolsen  to help you gain interested followers.

1. Go to your search bar and type in keywords that have to deal with your business.  Follow all of those people that come up in the search.  Do this over and over again daily with different keywords and follow those people.

2.  Once you have done that go into some of those followers accounts and follow all of their followers.  Take a quick glance to see if they seem to have quality people and follow all of their people.  As you can see this can keep you busy for the rest of your life!  This will provide you with followers who could be very interested in your business and product.

3.  Now for my personal opinion.  I think it is important to follow EVERYONE!  Everyone knows 10 people in this world that you do not know!  One of those 10 could be a huge account for you.  You never know who someone knows!!!  Don't prejudge!

4.  Now that your followers are growing go in and get to know 5 of your followers a day personally!  Take an interest in them.  Ask them about their company, family and what they like to do.  If you show an interest in them they will show an interest in you.

Here is a quick and simple tip that will help you look more professional on all the social media websites.  Your background picture or logo should be the same regardless which SM platform you are on.  What that does is give your brand continuity and helps you brand yourself to your potential customers.  It simply looks better to have that consistency throughout your social media network than for you to have a different picture or logo on every platform.

Also when others are searching for you on other social media networks they will recognize you quicker and associate that logo or picture to your brand.  This is quite a simple tip but not used very often by many in the social media world.  Hope that helps!

I have been doing a lot of thinking this year on what characteristics are the most important in making a business succeed.  It doesn't matter what the business is.  It could be an internet business, network marketing, franchise owner, or whatever category that your business is in.  Then I started to narrow things down and realized there is really only 1 characteristic a person has to have that will ultimately make their business succeed.  What is it?  I will tell you!

That one characteristic is called persistence or fortitude.  Why is persistence important?  I have noticed that when most people come across difficulties in their business they fold the tents up and quit!  The excuses start to come and the blame game starts as to why they are not successful.  If a business owner would just continue to get up each morning and put 1 foot in front of the other and never quit they will be successful.  Why is that? 

Most people don't have the discipline or fortitude to stick with one thing for any long period of time.  They get bored or irritated or disappointed and their will to move on is stopped dead in its tracks.  So if you are the very small percentage that won't quit your business regardless you will ultimately see green pastures simply by attrtion.  We are taught to jump from one thing to another and the skill of discipline and persistence has been lost.

When times are tough or your income is not where you want it to be with your business remember to stay the course and keep chiseling away at the sculpture.  Time, persistence and fortitude will allow the cream to rise to the top!

When I was a young man my father and mother always stressed to me the importance of acting with class.  They always stressed that if you are a gentleman you never have to rehash your conduct the next day.  As a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy they told us wherever we were we acted as an extentions of the Navy.  So acting with class as a United States Naval Officer people always knew that they could expect the best from us.

Now how does being a class act help you in business?  Let me name the ways how it can help you!

Imagine yourself only attracting the very best people into your life and business.  How would that change your outlook and profits in your business.  When you create a higher level of personal integrity and high standards you begin attracting other with the same elevated standards!  You will also get invited by others to places who share those same principals!  All this is done by becoming a class act!

Here are 5 quick and easy steps that you can implement today to make your effectiveness and performance on Twitter improve drastically.  Don't do these things and continue to watch your account suffer in mediocrity!

1. Make sure you have a fun smiling picture of yourself- Do not have a picture of your company logo or of you on the couch.  Have a picture of you smiling and having a good time.  People like to work with fun energetic people that are uplifting.  Make sure you picture portrays that image.

2.  Change your Twitter screen name to your name- There is only 1 thing in your life that remains constant and that is your name.  Your occupations change, your spouses change sometimes, your partners change but the 1 thing that stays the same is your name so brand it!

3. Have an informative bio- Most people try to be cute in their bio.  Some people have a bio that don't say much of anything.  Let people know who you are and what you do.  Consider this bio a condensed elevator pitch but don't be afraid to mention something about you that is interesting on the personal side either.  Your bio is our lantern into your world.

4. Get to know 5 new people a day- Make it a point to reach out to 5 new people a day.  This is the social networking piece of the puzzle.  They all know 10 people you don't know.  1 conversation can lead to a great life long friendship or your next enormous account for your company.

5. Be consistent- Be consistent in your presence on Twitter.  Don't go on today and not log on for 1 week!  People like to know your are a steady presence.  If they know you will be there daily even for a short period of time their trust level in you goes up.  Show consistency in your presence everyday on Twitter.

Go and apply these 5 items today and watch your Twitter experience improve!

.There are many ways to get to know people in your neighborhood or city and expose them to your business.  I feel one of the best ways is to become a regular at the most popular coffee shop in your town.  For me here in Kalispell, MT that is definitely a very trendy and cool place called The Boiler Room, http://boilerroombrew.com  This coffee shop is so fun and trendy and everyone in town gets there on the weekend or at some point in the week.  They transferred the boiler room of the old hospital into a coffee shop!

So why is a coffee shop a great place to expose your business to others?  Well its a relaxing atmosphere and great place to meet people and ask them what they do for a living without feeling like your intruding on them.  When people are relaxed enjoying some coffee they are in a social mood looking forward to hearing about what is going on with their city and the people that live in it.  This is not the time you want to jam your opportunity down their throat.  After some casual conversation very simply ask them if they are keeping their options open to making money if it doesn't interfere with what their currently doing.  If they are open then you will just want to get their business card adn call them in a few days later in the week.

Building a huge team locally truly explodes your income in your company because people feel very comftorable having upline near them and before you know it you have enough people to start holding weekly meetings.  When you dominate your local market its like a huge snowball rolling downhill and it keeps moving effortlessly!

By the way, my coffee shop, The Boiler Room has the best Bacon and Cheese Waffle in the world.  You have to come and visit just to try that!  So get out to your local coffee shop and start mingling and get to know those in your neighborhood and city and let them know about the great company you work for!

As The Twitter Guru many of my clients and people who ask me advice want to know about how they can get "Targeted Followers" on their Twitter account.  Every time I hear that I cringe then I chuckle!  It tells me that most people don't know or understand how social networking works.  Let me explain.

There is no such thing as targeted or untargeted followers on Twitter! Every follower is targeted!  Why is this?  This is so because you never know who that person knows!  The rule of 10 says that every person on the planet knows 10 people who you don't know.  That is power!  So that follower on Twitter may not be a "Targeted Follower" but their father may be, their professor may be, their neighbor may be, their pastor may be or their roommate may be!  How in the world do you know who they know??  You don't! 

Some of my biggest accounts came from people who referred me to their friends or associates.  They were not in need of my service or wern't targeted but their colleagues were!  So who do you want as a follower on Twitter?  Everybody!  Aside from people who are crude you want every follower you can get.  The more followers you have the more retweets you get.  The more retweets you get the more exposure you get.  The more exposure you get the more leads you get.  The more leads you get the more business you close.

So when someone tells you they only go after "Targeted Followers" on Twitter you let them know what The Twitter Guru taught you today.

When you are prospecting on Facebook and Twitter and many of us do what is the best way to get people to respond to us?  We all have asked that question.  Many times people don't get back to us at all.  The reason for that is we don't give them a reason to!  What do I mean by that?  Well we make a comment to someone and its something very generic with no response needed!!!  So there is no reason for that person to get back with us. 

How do you get around that issue you ask?  Very simple.  When you are getting to know someone or prospecting for your business always always always end with a question to them!!!  Make sure the last thing you say is a question!  Why?  Well now they have to get back to you regarding that question!  If they do not they look like a schmuck!  Also people love answering questions about themselves because it makes them feel empowered and confident and their ego runs wild.  So if you want to get to know someone on a deeper level and you want the conversation to keep moving along always always always make your last words a question so they have to get back with you!

Why should someone consider owning a network marketing business?  There are dozens of reasons that I can come up with but I will narrow it down to the top 10.  In my mind it is one of the greatest decisions you can make for your income and growth as a person.

1. Incredible Income Opportunity-  This is the one industry where your education, background, status, where you live, who you know simply does not matter!  The income opportunities in network marketing are second to none and its wonderful not having a income ceiling or company trying to tell you your only worth so much!

2. Tax Advantages- We all know what incredible advantages having a home based busienss offers!  In fact if you have a job and no home based business you are losing $20 a day in taxes!  The tax advantages with network marketing home based businesses are staggering.  Always check with your CPA regarding your taxes.

3. Mentors-  Daily I speak with my upline one of which is making over $20,000 per month and the other is now making over $52,000 per month!!!  Mentorship is one of the most important things needed to prosper in your career.  In network marketing you have access to top notch income earners who have a vested interest in your success!

4. Personal Development- Most network marketing companies have 3 day trainings where you learn how to run your home based business and the key ingredients in making a fortune.  They also provide you with cd's, videos, and webinars that enhance your knowledge on your product, communication skills, and how to maximize profits in your business.  In fact my company, Numis Network ( http://thecoinguru.com ) actually has Success Magazine ( http://successmagazine.com ) sent to your home every month!  Its amazing training!

5. Freedom- A network marketing business gives me the freedom to work from home and be with my family.  I can do anything I want anytime I want.  I do not have to get permission to go to a doctor or dentist appointment or beg for permission to take a vacation.  You can never put a price on freedom!

6. No Commute-  I work out of my home so I dont spend thousands of hours each year stuck in traffic on the freeway!  That also means I spend less in gas and wear and tear on my vehicle!

7. Being Around Terrific Positive People- I have worked in corporate america and have experiences how negative and depressing most people are that are working there!  Its simply terrible!  In network marketing people are upbeat, positive, constructive and always looking to better themselves in every way.

8. No Glass Ceiling- In most companies you have a glass ceiling on your income or how far up the proverbial corporate  ladder you can climb.  In network marketing the sky is the limit.  If you want to make $50,000 per month you can.  If you want to advance up the company and hit the top ranks you can.  The only thing that can stop you is you!

9. Speaking Opportunities- As you become a leader in your network marketing company speaking opportunities will present themselves.  This is a wonderful opportunity for those that want to take advantage of that!

10. So Much Fun- This is self explanatory.  We have so much fun in my company!  There is nothing better than helping others in your downline grow personally and financially!  Its always such a blast to get together and these are friendships that will last a lifetime!
